The Van Buuren Museum & Gardens is a public utility foundation established in 1970. It is based in the former home of philanthropist banker David Van Buuren and his wife Alice. Built in 1928 and transformed into a museum in 1975, the house features architecture typical of the Amsterdam School. The interior, an art deco masterpiece, displays a unique collection of work by renowned Belgian, French and Dutch interior designers. The gardens, which are open to the public, form part of the well-known European Route of Historic Gardens, a cultural itinerary created by the Council of Europe to promote the cultural heritage of historic European gardens.
