Lombard Odier partners with CERN by supporting the ATLAS PhD Grant Scheme in particle physics research
Lombard Odier is pleased to announce it is partnering with the CERN & Society Foundation by committing financial support, over the next three years, to six talented PhD students in particle physics research. The young researchers selected to receive an ATLAS grant will continue their studies in Geneva as part of an international collaboration involving 181 institutions and agencies from 38 countries. The PhD students will take part in the ATLAS experiment. This consists of one general-purpose detector at the Large Hadron Collider, which is used for investigating a wide range of physics, from the search for the Higgs boson, to extra dimensions and the particles that could make up dark matter. They will be under excellent supervision and training while working alongside leading specialists.
By joining forces with CERN and CERN & Society Foundation programme, Lombard Odier is reaffirming its commitment to a young generation of scientists driven to constantly push the boundaries of technology in order to advance science and help solve society's problems, around the globe, in sectors such as health and the environment. Lombard Odier will support two of the three students receiving the grant in 2019. Giulia Rovelli, from the University of Pavia in Italy, will focus on researching the dark matter particles produced during the ATLAS experiment and deciphering their properties. Rongkun Wang, from the University of Science and Technology of China and Michigan University in the United States, will continue his work on measuring the force generated by the interaction between the Higgs boson and elementary particles.
In pushing the boundaries of technology, CERN and its researchers are a source of inspiration for Lombard Odier in its commitment to its Rethink Everything philosophy, which is the cornerstone of the firm's 223-year history.
