Lombard Odier wins prestigious sustainability award
We are pleased to announce that Lombard Odier won a prestigious sustainability prize at the 2021 Global Private Banking Awards. The accolade for “Best private bank for impact and sustainable investing” was announced at a virtual ceremony, and confirms our pioneering position and recognised expertise in sustainability. The annual Global Private Banking Awards are organised by Professional Wealth Management (PWM) and The Banker, published by the Financial Times Group.
“It is a sincere honour and privilege to receive this prestigious award, especially during the COP26, where Lombard Odier is actively participating,” said Christopher Kaminker, PhD, Head of the Sustainable Investment Research, Strategy and Stewardship team (SIRSS) at Lombard Odier. “As investors, it is our obligation to ensure that we are as informed as possible about the myriad sustainability dynamics that underpin risk and return considerations. These, including the interlinked transitions to net-zero emissions, a circular economy and regenerative nature, are already material to our investment processes and are set to accelerate dramatically in the years ahead.”
At Lombard Odier, we seek to understand the sustainability transition on behalf of our clients, and provide frameworks and solutions for helping private capital to navigate the CLICTM transition, the transition to a circular, lean, inclusive and clean economy.
Expertise and robust science-based frameworks in sustainability
“To us, sustainability is a fundamental investment conviction that requires dedicated expertise and robust science-based frameworks,” added Christopher Kaminker. “This is why our SIRSS team is 27 people strong and growing — our expertise is wide ranging, encompassing climate science, engineering, data science, geospatial analysis and economics. Our research is further supported by our partnership with the University of Oxford, which provides us with access to dedicated academic expertise to review our methodologies, improve our models and collaborate on new research projects. This award only strengths our resolve to grow and improve our capabilities in sustainable investment to better serve our clients.”
Long-term commitment
Our sustainable investment methodology has been developed and refined over the last 25 years. It goes beyond traditional, backward-looking ESG metrics. We assess business models as well as business practices: what companies make and do, and how they are positioned for future challenges, as well as how they act. We look at exposure to the eight sustainability challenges, and strategies to mitigate risks and capture opportunities. Our proprietary ESG analysis reviews 115 data points, plus an extra layer to differentiate those making measurable progress. We assess companies’ alignment with the UN SDGs, exposure to controversies, carbon emissions and water use. Our global methodology enable us to assess the future temperature trajectories of over 23,000 companies and their alignment with the Paris Agreement goals to limit global warming to 1.5-2 °C.
